I was trying to think of a clever title for this post and 'Ouch' was the best I could come up with. Ouch has been the word of the week....amongst other more 'colourful' vocabulary.

I'm in bed as I type this (On a Saturday when I should be shopping, sipping Vanilla Latte without a care in the world). I have Sweet Tea, Antibiotics, My Laptop, Phone, Tissue, Antibacterial Hand gel lol, notebooks, pens and a hot water bottle. I don't have the flu, I have worse......(Drama Queen moment, dramatic music) a bloody Inner and outer ear infection!

You'd be forgiven for thinking I was being a drama queen but I haven't had much sleep at all for nearly two weeks. I have been in tears at points with the pain. If you've ever been through this....it isn't just a wee episode of Earache, it's hell!!! constant stabbing pain in your ear, your ear is tender and very sore and it doesn't take 1 simple painkiller to go away.

I wanted to write this post as a 'Sistahood' (and brotherhood) thing lol, cause anybody can get this. My crime? I went for one of my fabulous Bubblebaths last week and I was just relaxing and some of the water went into my left ear. I didn't think anything of it. When I came out of the bath my ear was a bit itchy so I used.......cotton buds (q-tips) as I would usually do to basically clean out my ears.

Next day I woke up with a slight ear ache which grew more and more as the day went on. Thinking it was a bit of dry wax  (I know, it sounds gross) I got some Otex ear drops. I followed the directions and when I first put them in that night I went deaf for 30 mins. I put this down to it working and sorting the problem out.

Fast forward a few days on and the pain has gotten worse, I'm getting 2 hours of sleep a night if that and I can't sit down cause the pain is making me restless.

Managed to get an appointment yesterday at my Doctors with a nurse who was lovely. She said my ears were very clean lol but I had an 'Inner and Outer' Ear Infection in my left ear! She gave me Amoxycillon (don't know if that's the correct spelling but you probably have heard of it before) and some ear drops to take 3 times a day.

I noticed she gave me 5 days supply and it made me nervous cause I thought 'is 5 days worth going to be enough to get rid of this bloody thing'. Still, I tried to keep focused on the positive side. I heard that for strong Ear infections Amoxycillon doesn't always 'do the job' and you have to go back to the Docs for stronger medication. If that fails it's referral to a specialist at the hospital and medical procedures could be on the agenda, because it's close to the brain you can't hang about with these things.

I read that some people pop painkillers like smarties when they're going through this because the pain is so strong it comes back full force when the painkillers wear off and it takes an hour for them to kick in anyway.

So, I started taking two of my antibiotics capsules yesterday afternoon and last night with the spray and I felt like I was in hell and I woke up today feeling hell. I've had two today and the pain is constant so I've put a hotwater bottle wrapped in a towel against my ear and it's soothed it. I know I'm not supposed to have the ear too warm or whatever but some people have said it works.

The hot water bottle thing is calming it down a bit and that's good enough for me.

Oh and btw, the bloody antibiotics apparently don't kick in till 3 days in....fabulous! I will grit my teeth, grin and bear it and hope that it all works out fabulous, I'll keep you posted lol.

It's a scary experience, some people have dizziness, loss of hearing, headaches and all sorts. If left untreated it can become very serious.

So, moral of the story is this.....try not to get hot soapy water in your ear too much, a quick dip is fine but don't have your ears underwater for a long period of time (you can be at risk of the ear infection 'swimmers ear') and pleaseeeeee don't use Cotton buds (q-tips) to clean your ears cause you're just pushing ear wax into your ear and it becomes hard as a rock and it leads down a whole ugly road of complications which could result in surgery. Get some ear drops and that'll keep your ears in fabulous health and protected against any possible ear infections flaring up.

Well, that was a long post lol and if you read it, I hope you had a cup of tea whist you were. Just putting my experience out there incase you're going through similar or are being naughty and using  cotton buds lol.

Thanks always for reading, I really appreciate it!

Back to hot water bottle, cups of tea and rest for me, Much Love : )) x
