Ticking Timebomb: The Downward Spiral of Chris Benoit | Dark History From The World of Wrestling: Part Two

*Please be aware that I will be sharing some very disturbing details in this post which will discuss sensitive subjects such as Domestic Violence, Suicide, Murder and Substance abuse*

So, here it is, I have finally decided to write about Chris Benoit after years of requests and because I couldn't bring myself to do it which may sound strange. I have written about many disturbing cases over the years but there are some that even I can find a bit too hard to get through and with the Chris Benoit case, it's always been a very dark and disturbing part of wrestling history. Not only that, it is a story that shocked the hell out of everyone and still to this day so many people struggle to even comprehend what actually happened and why it happened. Looking back, especially if you are a wrestling fan like myself, it's clear watching old clips and taking into account everything that was going on just before Chris Benoit murdered his wife, his son and then took his own life, the glass was beginning to crack more and more.

I try to be non-objective in my posts but you will probably find in this series (in case you haven't read the first instalment: The Tragic Story of Miss Elizabeth) that I might share my own thoughts here and there and as always, I welcome yours. If you've just stumbled across this post....basically I am currently writing about some of the dark and disturbing cases and stories from the world of wrestling and this is the second instalment. I come at this not only as a true crime writer but as a wrestling fan so like many of you reading this now, I grew up glued to the TV screen, on the edge of my seat waiting for my favourite wrestlers to make their grand entrances, I was hooked on many a storyline, I felt the adrenaline when standing next to Batista (yes, I've been to shows), I watch wrestling practically every day and it's always been a part of my life since childhood.

Wrestling has brought me a lot of joy and great memories in my life and for most of us it is something special and fun. So when we lose one of our superstars it is heartbreaking and we have lost a lot of people over the years. We've seen a lot of scandals too, we know there is a lot of negative stuff that goes on and gets covered up but still we find ourselves committed to it. I still remember when the horrible news was made public that the legendary (I'll describe him as that for that time because he was an icon back then) wrestler Chris Benoit, his beautiful wife Nancy (who was also a legend in the wrestling world) and their adorable son, Daniel were found murdered at their luxurious family home in Fayetteville, Georgia on the 25th of June 2007.

All these emotions just hit me at once and I know it was the same for many other people. Horror, shock, confusion, sadness, grief and anger, wanting to know what happened. All these emotions and not for one second did I think that Chris was responsible, it never even entered my mind and usually with these horrible situations your first thought is to assume it was a father who went on a rampage. I wasn't the only one, it seemed that nobody believed Chris to be responsible, most of us assumed that some psychotic fan had broken into the house, maybe a burglary gone wrong or some sort of dodgy business deal with the wrong people resulting in a horrific outcome. WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) seemed to be of the same mind as us because through the tears of everyone involved with the company, they wasted no time in having a 3-hour tribute show to Chris and his family.

(Chris Benoit. Picture credit: imdb)

Most of us cried watching the tribute show and we saw Vince McMahon who was usually playing his character to the back row, appear emotional and serious as was to be expected in the shocking circumstances. The grief stung us all but then more details emerged and it was worse than any of us could have imagined, with utter disbelief, we found out that the man we had been crying for and paying tribute to as well as Nancy and Daniel, was in fact responsible for murdering his beautiful family. Nobody wanted to believe it, conspiracies and rumours ran wild. Kevin Sullivan's name kept being mentioned along with crazy theories and the worst of all was a section of fans who believed that Nancy was responsible and had set-up Chris to take the blame which was ridiculous and utterly disrespectful. I may have been (and still am) a wrestling fan but some people are devoted to certain superstars and with some fans Chris was their idol since their childhoods, it was so traumatic for them that having to face the truth was too much, in their minds there had to be some other explanation.

There's been books written about Chris Benoit and documentaries shared and they've all been informative but some of the details are mixed, opinions are varied and even relatives of Chris and Nancy can't seem to agree on the exact details. Some people have said things on podcasts that investigators dispute, there was talk of a suicide note that Chris had left behind but according to his older surviving son, this was false. I also found in my research that not only did this nightmarish series of events almost ruin WWE, there was this quick 'all hands on deck' approach to making WWE appear as amazing as possible, as detached from Chris as much as possible and in no way, shape or form held responsible for anything that may have helped this situation to escalate to which it had. The simple fact was, WWE were not supportive enough of their wrestlers, red flags had been ignored on more than one occasion and steroids have always been in the background. Untimely and sudden deaths have constantly plagued the profession which you could say is the case with all kinds of sport. I found in my research that there is the 'Official story' and then there's 'The Truth' People will cover their backs, flush the steroids down the toilet and come up with an 'official' story to explain the circumstances in a more palatable way.

Chris was what we call an 'old school' wrestler who had worked his way up with many challenges, in wrestling terms he was considered to be 'small' in the beginning but he refused to give up. A devoted fan of wrestling from the tender age of 11, he grew up idolizing Thomas Billington aka the Dynamite Kid (I will be writing about Thomas and his cousin, Davey Boy Smith aka The British Bulldog, in an upcoming post).

The Dynamite kid as well as his cousin, The British Bulldog, were no strangers to scandal and had shocking ends to both of their careers and lives. I will go into all of the details in the coming weeks but Chris was  transfixed with the Dynamite Kid when he was younger and tried to copy everything from his style to his signature moves. Chris was always a determined individual even as a young boy and he was able to pull strings and meet his idol backstage at a show, Chris was just 13 at the time. At that time the Dynamite Kid was riding the high of his career but it was all soon to come crashing down, but in that moment, the young Chris Benoit was starstruck and wanted to be just like him.

So, a little bit of background on Chris Benoit's upbringing, he was born Chris Michael Benoit on the 21st of May 1967 in Montreal, Quebec (his birth date of the 21st of May was the same as his future wife Nancy's, although she was born in the year 1964). He was a quiet child, able to speak both English and French fluently, he had moved to Edmonton with his sister and parents earlier in his childhood. As I mentioned earlier, he'd been obsessed with wrestling since childhood idolizing the Dynamite Kid and Bret Hart. He studied the Dynamite Kid and when he did go into the wrestling business himself he was regularly compared to his idol. Chris was determined to achieve his dream and he did whatever it took to get there even taking steroids and training like crazy despite still being a young kid. No matter how hard he worked though, he was still deemed 'small' for a wrestler but he never lost his determination and at 18 he begged Stuart Hart for a chance to learn the ropes and he was put through his paces to see if he could take it. Chris was taken to 'The Dungeon' and was taught the hardcore training (which was often described a torturous and like the worst bootcamp you could ever imagine) and lifestyle that he would have to commit to if he was determined to succeed, he gave it all he got.

One thing you could say about Chris Benoit back then was that he was never shy of hard work, he would travel every weekend to these gruelling training sessions when other young guys would be out at the weekends partying, during the week Chris would work for his Dad.

In some ways you have to admit how remarkable it was that he ended up working with (and trained) by some of the wrestlers he idolized growing up. He travelled far and wide to learn his craft and even wrestled in Japan for a year as well as Mexico and Europe. During this time he was never too proud to get his hands dirty by doing the menial tasks whilst continuing to learn the ropes from his trainers.

When he met fellow wrestler Eddie Guerrero, the pair found that they had a lot of similarities including trying to make it in the wrestling world despite constantly being thrown obstacles and deemed 'too small' and often overlooked. There friendship became more like a brotherhood and the pair would joke about being soulmates but it was true. Eddie became the rock that Chris would lean on when times were difficult. Eddie was the voice of reason and would often put Chris straight if he began to get frustrated and doubt his ability.

Chris didn't find it that easy to open up to people so with Eddie he had this unique bond. Any problems that he had he would talk to Eddie about them. Chris did have some other close friends that he grew up in the industry with and they meant so much to him. These friendships were very important to him.

Chris had been married twice and had three children in total. His first marriage to Martha ended in 1997 and with her he had both a son, David and a daughter, Megan. His second marriage to Nancy came about after the pair had gotten close after they had been working together on a storyline which involved Nancy's then husband, the wrestler Kevin Sullivan. It was actually Kevin's idea to have this love triangle storyline and would tell both Chris and Nancy to make sure that they were seen together in restaurants and the same hotels. Chris didn't feel comfortable with this in the beginning but soon accepted the idea. During this time, Nancy and Chris became close especially when Nancy confided in Chris about how the marriage was suffering and that Kevin would be violent at times. Chris was like a big teddy bear to Nancy and in the beginning was very romantic and protective so they fell in love and Nancy got divorced from Kevin and Chris's marriage to Martha had already broken down.

(Nancy Benoit. Picture credit: imdb)

When Nancy married Chris it was to be her third and final marriage and her first time at being a mother. Their son, Daniel was born on the 25th of February 2000. By the time Nancy had met Chris she had already made an established career in the wrestling field herself but not as a wrestler, more of a valet and manager. Nancy had been close friends with Miss Elizabeth (who I wrote about in part one of this series).

To everyone around them, the Benoit family looked like the dream. They had their normal ups and downs like all marriages too but soon things began to fall apart. There was the usual pressures of their careers but Nancy decided to step down from what she had been doing to focus on family life, Chris continued on with his career and managed to achieve everything he wanted to with his proud wife and son by his side. Eddie was there cheering him on too and Eddie was also ahead in his own wrestling career. They both celebrated each other's success and the fact that all of that hard work they had done over the years had finally payed off, they were are the top of their game and like true brothers, they were so proud of each other.

(Eddie Guerrero. Picture credit: elpasotimes)

The pair had finally made it but the joy and celebration was to be cut short because sadly Eddie Guerrero passed away in his hotel room on the 13th of November 2005. He was just 38 years old and had collapsed in the bathroom, his nephew Chavo found him and tried to perform CPR on his beloved uncle but there was no response. Chavo, in a panic and not knowing what to do, frantically called Chris Benoit who got to the hotel as quick as he could and the pair dashed around the room as quick as they could trying to get rid of the stash of steroids that Eddie had been using before calling 911.

This practice of hiding or getting rid of substances that a wrestler may have been using in these tragic circumstances, was apparently common practice. In 1984 the legendary wrestler Bruiser Brody (who is also part of my series so keep your eyes peeled for that upcoming post) according to Ric Flair, had disposed of drugs that had belonged to David Von Erich when the wrestler sadly passed away whilst on a wrestling tournament of Japan. The death was reportedly attributed to an accidental overdose of Hydrocodone (which I seem to be seeing this painkiller pop up a lot in my research with wrestlers deaths). This has been disputed though with his family claiming his death was the result of a heart attack. The death has also been listed as ruptured intestines resulting from acute enteritis.

Eddie's death hit everyone really hard and at the time of his death he was at the height of his career and was very much loved and admired by the fans and his fellow wrestlers. When WWE payed tribute to Eddie, there was hardly a dry eye in the house. Chris Benoit was utterly devastated and broke down completely. Through tears he said:

''Eddie Guerrero was my best friend and I'm sure there's a lot of people he knew that would be able to say the same thing about him. He was such a beautiful person, such a kind hearted person, I couldn't find the words, words couldn't describe what kind of human being Eddie truly was. I've known Eddie for just about 15 years and spent a good portion of the 15 years with him on the road, we laughed together, cried together, fought each other, been up and down, each and every mountain, each and every highway. Eddie always led by example. He was the one friend I could go to and pour my heart out to if I was going through something, if I had a personal issue, a personal problem he was the one guy I could call and talk to and know he would understand and know he would talk me out of it because all of the experiences he'd been through. I believe in leading by example and Eddie always led by example by his life because of all the obstacles he went through and conquered and became a better person and he often used that as an example. We never left each other without telling each other that we loved each other and I can truly say that I love Eddie Guerrero. He's a man that I can say I love and I love his family and my heart and thoughts and my prayers go out to...and Eddie I know you're in a better place. I know that you're looking down on me right now. I only know that I love you and I miss you.....Eddie you made such a great impression in my life and I want to thank you for anything you have ever given me and I want to thank you from my heart and tell you that I love you and I'll never forget you and that we'll see each other again. I love you Eddie.''

The devastating loss of Eddie Guerrero had changed Chris Benoit forever, I believe that this was the beginning of the downward spiral for Chris. He and Nancy both had to deal with numerous deaths of close friends all in a short space of time. Chris had lost his closest friend in the whole world, the person who he could turn to about anything and the one who kept him on the straight and narrow, now it seemed like he was lost and felt more helpless and more devastated the more friends he had lost, people he had come up through the wrestling business with and had been so important to him. The loss of so many friends, the problems in the marriage and there was rumoured concern about Daniel's development. After the horrific deaths of the Benoit family, theories went around that Daniel had been suspected of having 'Fragile X', which is a condition that causes developmental issues. His teachers later came forward to say that this was false, Daniel was at the same level of learning as his fellow classmates and was doing well academically.

On the 28th of January 2006 the Mexican wrestler known as 'Black cat' sadly passed away and died of he sudden heart attack at the age of just 51. Victor (his real name Victor Manuel) had been responsible for training Chris whilst he was in Japan and the pair struck up a great friendship. Not long after this, another close friend of Chris's, Michael Durham known as the wrestler 'Johnny Grunge' suddenly passed away at the young age of 39 as a result of sleep apnea which led to a blockage in his arteries due to obesity. Prescription pills were also listed as a factor. Michael had been supporting Chris through the death of Eddie.

Chris kept a diary which he wrote letters to Eddie as a way of trying to cope but he missed him terribly and the deaths of his dear friends were making things even more devastating, it was grief on top of grief with no end in sight.

Things between Chris and Nancy continued to get worse and Nancy confided in her neighbour and close friend Holly that things were not right between them.

On that horrible day of Monday June the 25th 2007 the next door neighbour and close friend (Holly Schrepfer) was very concerned with Nancy's lack of response to her messages so she contacted the police who met with her outside of the Benoit home. Nancy and Chris had two dogs which Holly often looked after and they were roaming about. The police were trying to get access to the property but nobody was responding to calls so Holly climbed over the gate and managed to calm the dogs down before going into the property. Holly was nervous as one can imagine, she knew that things had been quite tense between Nancy and Chris in recent times plus she had seen Nancy upset before when they'd had one of there explosive arguments.

As Holly walked up the stairs she noticed the terrible smell, the air conditioning in the Benoit home was off for whatever reason but as she approached Daniel's room she was met with the shocking sight of the little seven year old boy on the bed, it was clear from the dried foam on his mouth, nose and the discoloration of his skin that he was sadly deceased. She noticed that there had been a child's bible placed beside him. The room was full of posters and memorabilia of his father, it's unclear if he wanted all of that stuff in there or it was his father being narcissistic wanting his own son to idolize him but whatever the reason, now Holly was devastated to find Daniel dead and realised pretty quickly that chances were, the possibility that Nancy was also deceased. It was very brave of her to have gone into the property because if it had been some sort of break-in or gang related, the perpetrators could still have been in the house but I suppose she may have felt some sort of safety knowing that the police were outside.

As Holly made her way to Nancy's office as she knew that was one of Nancy's favourite room's in the house, she saw Nancy lying lifeless on the floor it was clear that she was deceased and decomposition had set in, her face was a blueish black and her body had become bloated. There was also a bible that had been placed next to her body. Shockingly Nancy had been tied up, she'd had her hands tied behind her back and her feet were tied together. A cord had also been placed around her neck. It was a horrifying discovery as was the situation in which she found Daniel. She wanted to get out of the house as soon as possible and who could blame her, she didn't bother to look for Chris but had a feeling he would be in the basement but she was scared to look.

Holly ran out of the house shouting to the police officers that she had found Nancy and Daniel deceased but wasn't sure where Chris was. The police then went into the property and sure enough, they found Chris Benoit in his home gym, he had hung himself. According to the police who first discovered him, he had used one of his weight machines by replacing the bar with a cable and looped it around his neck whilst putting as much weight as he could on the machine before letting it go. According to investigators this would have been a very painful way to die. The manner in which Chris took his own life is disputed and Nancy's sister gives a different version of how Chris had died to the one that was made to the public by the police and what was found in Chris's autopsy. She said he had been researching that weekend on how to break someone's neck but no evidence on the Benoit computers reflected this piece of information. She also claimed that there was a suicide note which was also reported not to be accurate.

(Daniel and Nancy Benoit. Picture credit: wrestlingfigs)

It was clear that Chris had carefully planned how he would take his own life and in his autopsy his neck was determined not to have been broken. The only damage to his neck had been the ligature marks from the pressure of the cable. In Daniel's autopsy they had found that he had been sedated with Xanax and the death was a result of suffocation. Due to the signs of decomposition only just starting to appear when Daniel was found compared to Nancy it was determined that Chris murdered his son after he killed his wife. Another shocking and upsetting fact in this case is that Nancy was not sedated and the manner in which she had been tied up with evidence that he had forced his knee into her back as he pulled on the cable from behind is utterly disturbing. There was no way Nancy could even attempt to protect herself as her hands and feet had been tied.

Investigators claim that it was highly likely that Nancy was murdered on the Friday night with Daniel's death occurring on the Saturday. Chris took his own life on the Sunday which throws the theory of 'Roid Rage' (a term typically associated with a person who goes insane as a result of taking steroids over a long period of time). On the Benoit family computer, records showed that Chris had been searching online after the murders for a Bible story in which the prophet Elijah raises the son of a widow from the dead. Some people speculate that Chris was trying to find a way to being Daniel back but none of us will ever know what exactly was going through his tortured mind.

For 3 days Chris Benoit remained in that house with his deceased wife and child and yet more disturbing actions were his messages and phone calls to people. He told people that Nancy and Daniel had food poisoning and that he would arrive later to the shows he was scheduled to perform in. He had missed two shows (a pay-per-view show and a championship match) which was completely out of character for him especially as he was billed to win on the Sunday night, it would have been another big moment in his wrestling career. Chris was a workaholic when it came to wrestling, he'd even wrestled before in the past with a broken neck for months on end before being forced to get proper treatment, he just never wanted to miss a show. He was devoted to wrestling to the point of obsession. He sent people text messages with excuses with the food poisoning story and at one point claiming that he and Nancy were in the hospital with Daniel. On the Sunday he sent two messages to two close friends (Chavo Guerrero and WWE referee Scott Armstrong)) telling them that he left the garage doors doors open and the dogs were secure, it was obvious something was not right but nobody bothered to check.

An investigation into the mishandling of WWE's response to Chris's strange behaviour as well as mixed information was brought to light. The world of wrestling was put under the microscope and Vince McMahon was questioned about steroids. The company looked bad and it looked like they had ignored red flags, turned a blind eye to steroid abuse and had tried to cover their tracks. Were they responsible for what Chris Benoit did? No, but there is some negligence on their part and lack of care. The death of Eddie Guerrero shook the world of wrestling to it's core and the fact that Eddie, Chris and others who were considered 'smaller' by WWE promoters (and often overlooked in the beginning of their career) felt the pressure to be bigger and resorted to achieve what WWE deemed to be an acceptable weight, strength and look and the only way that could be done was with steroids. It's sad that both men saw their careers flourish more when they were abusing drugs and once you're on this type of road it's hard to come off it, their careers (which they worked so hard for) meant everything to them.

When Eddie Guerrero died it was officially explained away as a heart attack from past steroid abuse when he was involved with another wrestling company. WWE were quick to throw off the blame and tried to declare that Eddie had been steroid-free whilst he was on contract with them. It turned out that he was still using them, not to the extreme but he was still using steroids. When he died one of the first things that was done by his nephew, together with close friend Chris Benoit was to flush the various substances that Eddie was taking, down the toilet. This was a regular thing, why? to protect WWE or whichever wrestling brad they were apart of  and maybe to protect the legacy of the wrestler?, but this has happened time and again with the public being given a different story.

I will say that in recent years I have loved the fact that WWE have taken on wrestlers with a more realistic body shape, both with the male and female wrestlers and they've been proven to be popular. Did WWE learn from the deaths of the legends who's lives have ended far too soon or the shocking and horrific actions of Chris Benoit, one of their once golden superstars? I see a lot of positive changes with the company but what do you think? I would love to hear other fans perspectives on this.

As Chris had a reputation for never missing shows, when it was announced that he wouldn't be making an appearance (this was before the shocking details were revealed to the public) the wrestling fan forums ran riot with speculation as to why he wasn't going to be there. On Wikipedia an anonymous entry appeared declaring that Chris Benoit was not going to appear at the shows because he had murdered his wife. It was a horrible thing to have said with no information or facts at that time. This chilling occurrence right before the horrible details were made public sent chills down everyone's spine and to this day some people still talk about this and have conspiracy theories about it. I looked into this and it turned out that this person turned out to be a troll who had history of going on to wrestlers Wikipedia pages and leaving the most horrible and sometimes explicit things. One one wrestler's Wikipedia he had written that the guy was a child abuser and on a female wrestler's Wikipedia he had written that lots of men wanted to have anal sex with her. The fact that this loser had written such a statement about Chris being a murderer just before the news was released to the public, as crazy as it sounds, was just simply a horrible coincidence nothing more. This guy lived online and would sit and make up lies on people's Wikipedia pages, it's pathetic and this time it came back to bite him in the ass big time! He was tracked down and wrote a huge statement online terrified that people would harass him and his family, saying his apologies over and over and begging forgiveness saying he would never do these things again.

After the horrific deaths of the Benoit family, theories ran riot about what drove Chris to carry out these horrendous actions on his beautiful wife and child. Steroids were constantly brought up as an explanation but according to investigators and the toxicology report, this was not a contributing factor. Chris's Dad Mike along with retired professional wrestler turned neuroscientist, Christopher Nowinski got together and discussed Christopher's theory that Chris may have suffered from severe brain trauma caused by repeated blows to the head during his wrestling days. An examination of Chris's Brain was conducted and it was revealed that his brain was so severely damaged that, in their words ''it resembled the brain of an 85 year old Alzheimer's patient''

Chris Benoit's WWE record was deleted and all mention of him was wiped from the WWE website and any upcoming publications. If you were a new fan just discovering WWE for the first time you'd be forgiven for not knowing that Chris Benoit ever existed, WWE have done their best to completely distance the brand from him. Nancy is still celebrated for her contribution to wrestling history.

Chris Benoit was cremated and his remains given to his family. His father Mike, had tried for many years to explain that his son's actions were due to CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) but like all of us he struggles to understand because there is no way to understand why someone could do what he did. We know he was ill and the studies on his brain proved that but it's a difficult subject to talk about because where do you start? I really believe that his decline began when Eddie passed away and there was a combination of everything all at once. He was in a really bad place and I think Nancy did all she could to help him. What he did to her and his adorable son is unforgivable and I'll never understand that. None of it made any sense and if Eddie had been alive at the time all of that took place he would have been just had horrified as the rest of us.

Nancy and Daniel were cremated and their ashes were placed in matching starfish urns and given to family to take care of.

RIP Nancy and Daniel. RIP also to all of the wrestlers we have lost and all involved in the world of wrestling entertainment who have given their all over the years and have died before their time. You all will never be forgotten x

This was an incredibly long post to get through so if you have made it to the end, I really appreciate it. As you can probably understand why it took me some time to write about this devastating part of wrestling history but I'm glad I have finally been able to get through it. I will be continuing on with my third instalment in my 'Dark History From the World of Wrestling' series so I hope you will continue to join me for that. Thank you also, for all of the positive feedback and messages about my first post on Miss Elizabeth, it's lovely to see how she is still held in such high regard by a lot of wrestling fans.

Until next instalment.....please stay safe x

*Please be aware that I will be sharing some details in this post which some people may find upsetting. I will be mentioning sensitive subjects such as domestic violence and substance misuse so please bear that in mind*

It still surprises me the reaction that I get sometimes from people when they discover my love for wrestling. Some people assume that I'm one of those people who are just jumping on the bandwagon and don't take it that seriously but the truth is, I've been obsessed with wrestling since I was a child. For some reason as a kid, I thought that I could dive off of things without any problems....and I did, I was very lucky not to have broken any bones but believe it or not, I liked to jump off of swings, make a jump from a window ledge on to my bed and all sorts of crazy things, I was a strange child and why was I doing all of this? Well, I was trying to copy the wrestlers that I loved watching as a kid.

Wrestling has always been a part of my life and I still love it to this day. There's not a day goes by when I'm not watching something wrestling related, I always like to keep up to date with everything that's going on. So, I was thinking about quite a lot of legends we have lost in the wrestling world over the years, as we know, a lot of tragedies have happened, we've lost so many amazing people and we still celebrate their legacies to this day, the likes of Andre The Giant, Chyna, Eddie Guerrero and Owen Hart, amongst many others, have left a mark on so many hardcore wrestling fans. We've seen sudden deaths occur, horrific injuries forcing legends to retire and we've seen some very disturbing moments such as the shocking deaths of the Benoit family....which I will be writing about in an upcoming post.

I've been asked quite a few times to write about Chris Benoit and I have yet to put pen to paper because I didn't think I would be able to add any new information to what everyone already knew. As some of my readers tell me, they may know about certain horrific events and true crime cases but they still want to read my take on it and my unique way of writing so I decided that I would create this series here on my blog. Each week I will delve into the past and look back over some of the shocking situations that have happened to some of our most iconic wrestlers over the decades and I'm starting this series off with non other than the unforgettable Miss Elizabeth.

Miss Elizabeth isn't known for being a 'wrestler', although she did have a little moment in the ring, she was involved in various aspects of wrestling and is mostly known for her stints as a manager to some of our most legendary wrestlers. She is considered a legend and another one of those sad stories that fans often look back on and wonder what could have been. Her death at the age of 42 came as a shock but in her short life and career she left behind some very iconic moments that continue to be re-played and enjoyed to this very day. The wrestlers of today, especially the WWE Divas, have spoken about how Miss Elizabeth was a huge influence on them and how she helped pave the way for women to be taken more seriously in wrestling, she is often referred to as 'The First Lady of Wrestling'.

Miss Elizabeth as she is most famously known (real name: Elizabeth Ann Hulette) was born on the 19th of November 1960 in Frankfort, Kentucky. Her step into the world of wrestling began in the early 1980s when whilst working at a gym she met a man by the name of Randy Poffo. Randy (known as the late and legendary, Randy Savage aka 'Macho Man') was a wrestler for ICW (International Championship Wrestling) and the pair became very close. Elizabeth became involved with ICW as a TV announcer in the beginning and then progressed to being Randy's manager from 1985 to 1992 when they were now in the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). With Miss Elizabeth (as she was called) being Randy's manager, this caused quite a stir at the time and the pair couldn't have been more opposite if they tried. Randy was very much his nickname 'macho' and came across as a loud, brash, burly control freak. Miss Elizabeth was a beautiful, gentle spoken and elegant woman who wore sparkly dresses and followed his lead.

Many things have been written about Miss Elizabeth and Randy Savage over the years and one thing that always seems to be a commonality is that they are often described as wrestling's first couple and most controversial couple. The pair played their roles, characters and storylines perfectly and Elizabeth would often have the fans feeling sorry for her with all she had to put up with having to deal with Randy. Randy would be described by some as 'over-protective' and others would say he was a 'control freak' with how he treated Elizabeth. The fans would often be disgruntled with the way Randy would sneer at Elizabeth or order her around. There were so many iconic and memorable moments from their partnership and Miss Elizabeth was a crucial part to many of the iconic storylines in the 1980s.

Elizabeth had worked with all the big names during her career in the wrestling world, Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon, Jessie Ventura, George 'The Animal' Steele (which was said to have been Elizabeth's first major storyline also involving Randy Savage which proved to be very popular with the fans), Roy Wayne 'The Honky Tonk Man' Farris, Ricky Steamboat, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, The Undertaker, Ric Flair, Curt 'Mr Perfect' Hennig and so many others. The 1980s were a fantastic time for Elizabeth and the storylines and iconic moments were aplenty but like all things in the wrestling world, everything was fast moving and as the 1990's approached changes came into play. Randy and Elizabeth had actually been married in real-life during this time and some people will still say to this day that Elizabeth was the love of Randy's life how they come to that conclusion I don't know but I do know that she played a major role in his early career and without her the storylines wouldn't have been as huge or as popular as they were.

Randy and Elizabeth had divorced by the time 1992 rolled around and the fans found out through a magazine, there was no big announcement or drama about it, it seemed to be quickly swept under the carpet. In the 90's Elizabeth seemed to be back and forth making appearances here and there but still remaining a fan favourite and seen as wrestling royalty, fans were always happy to see her. She took some time away from the world of wrestling and appeared again in WCW in 1996 in the role as a manager again reunited with Randy Savage and involved in storylines with him, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and others. She was part of the NWO (New World Order) with Hulk Hogan until she took some time off in April of 1999 but returned in September of that year to manage another legendary wrestler, Lex Luger.

At the time of Elizabeth managing Lex, they were both married to other people. Elizabeth was married to a lawyer, Carl Lubetsky who wasn't involved with any aspect of the wrestling business. Rumours were going around that Elizabeth and Lex (real name: Lawrence Wendell Pfohl) were having an affair and when he had to take some time off for an injury, she practically nursed him back to health and the pair were inseparable but it was soon to be proven to be a toxic union.

Both of them returned to the WCW and having done stints as a valet, TV announcer, presenter and manager, Elizabeth was now having a turn at wrestling but it was clear that her role as a manager was more what the fans and herself were used to. There was a short-lived collaboration with the couple and Richard 'Ric Flair' Fliehr a new tag team 'Team Package' around February of 2000 but this soon disbanded. For whatever reason, ideas running out for her character or maybe she felt it was time to move away from the wrestling business, Elizabeth decided not to return after her contract with WCW came to an end in August of 2000. She was however, scheduled to make some special appearances as part of the World Wrestling All-Stars tour of Europe in late 2002 with Lex Luger, he participated but surprisingly, although Elizabeth was with him on the tour, she refused to make any public appearances much to the disappointment with some fans who were looking forward to seeing her again.

Elizabeth was never to return to the world of wrestling but she still kept in contact with some of the friends she had made there over the years, her relationship with Lex continued even though it could be quite a rocky one at times. She took a job working the reception of a gym that Lex and another fellow wrestler (Sting) had owned and lived with Lex at a luxurious town house in Marietta, Georgia. Despite some rocky moments in the relationship things seemed to be going ok until Lex had some time away from wrestling and was spending more time at home. He had dabbled in substances over the years (as quite a few of the old-school wrestlers did unfortunately and many of them sadly passed away due to complications caused by years of steroid abuse) but since he was at home more and not on the road and working on shows, his dependency on various substances and alcohol worsened and Elizabeth was soon to join him in his addiction. A fiery couple as it was, the alcohol and drugs just made things worse and it was no surprise that the police were called out to the home on the 19th of April 2003 after reports of a violent incident. Elizabeth was found with various injuries as Lex (I should call him Lawrence but I'll just stick with 'Lex' to avoid confusion) had lashed out at her during one of these arguments.

The drugs and alcohol were taking over the relationship and with money being at their disposal there was no end in sight, it was only a matter of time before things would take a tragic turn. Lex was getting into all sorts of trouble being high as a kite most of the time. Just a couple of days after the domestic violence incident, Lex and Elizabeth were almost involved in a car crash due to Lex driving whilst drunk and high. The police found that he had a gun in the car and no drivers licence.

These horrible incidences just seemed to continue this tragic spiral of events which lead up to Elizabeth's shocking and heartbreaking death at the age of just 42. It was May the 1st when Lex says that he came home to the townhouse that evening and decided to rent some movies from Blockbuster which the pair watched together. Elizabeth at that time appeared to be fine, at some point the pair took some substances and alcohol and Elizabeth took a nap. Around the early hours of the morning Elizabeth had woken up and Lex asked her if she wanted something to eat. During eating he claims that she suddenly passed out and he realised that she was unconscious. While contacting authorities he was attempting CPR but there was no response from Elizabeth. An ambulance arrived at the house pretty quickly and Lex believed that Elizabeth would be fine because the paramedics took her to the hospital very swiftly and when the news came that she had passed away he was totally dumbfounded. At the age of just 42, Elizabeth was sadly gone due to what was determined to be a toxic mix of alcohol and painkillers. Her death was ruled as accidental and no foul play was determined. A lot of wrestling fans today still struggle with the circumstances surrounding Elizabeth's untimely death and hold Lex responsible for what they believe was his influence on her. The domestic violence incident which happened just a short time before her death, didn't paint him in a good light either.

An investigation was conducted and the police found a whole trove of drugs and prescription pills in the house including Hydrocodone (a form of painkiller which was found in Elizabeth's system along with alcohol and Xanax), Xanax, Anabolic steroids, Oxycodone, Synthetic Growth Hormone, Testosterone and Alprazolam (which is an anti anxiety medication). Lex was arrested and charged with drug possession and pleaded guilty to the charges put before him. He was released on bail and ended up receiving a suspended five year sentence and a fine of $1,000 and court order that he must attend regular drug screenings.

The news of Elizabeth's death shocked the world of wrestling, everyone was heartbroken as were the fans who had grown up watching her and had so many memories of iconic matches and moments that she was so much apart of.

The iconic Miss Elizabeth was taken home to be buried in the cemetery of her beloved hometown and to this day fans still go to her grave to pay their respects to a lost legend who did really pave the way for a lot of women in the wrestling world.

Elizabeth's mother, Mary Ann sadly passed away in 2021 and buried alongside Elizabeth at Frankfort cemetery in Kentucky.

As for Lex Luger (real name: Lawrence) he is still alive today (as of posting this blog: April 2025) and is retired from wrestling but was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He is currently 66 years old and has suffered various health issues over the years and has had to use a wheelchair. He recently got married again (2025).

The man who a lot of fans believe had been the most iconic partnership with Miss Elizabeth, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, sadly passed away on the 20th of May 2011 at the age of 58 due to a heart attack brought on by coronary artery disease.

I just wanted to include some words below from the men themselves. Lex and Randy on the death of Elizabeth. I have tried to transcribe to the best of my ability their comments in interviews.

In an interview with Canadian TV show host and radio personality, Chris Van Vilet, Lex said of Elizabeth:

''I had too much time and money on my hands. Got messed up on drugs and alcohol. Had a period where I was a complete trainwreck. The tragic passing of Elizabeth....people go ''well, he killed Elizabeth!''. Well, I didn't kill her....but was I a contributing factor to the lifestyle I was living and her being around me all the time....and she overdosed? Absolutely.'' - Lex Luger

Lex also mentioned in the interview that he understood why some fans still held him in some way responsible for Elizabeth's death:

''I totally understand....I get it. She was a beloved character, Liz. And I'll always be tied as part of what happened with her. And I get that I have haters out there. I understand where they are coming from...I get it.'' - Lex Luger

He described what happened in the hours leading up to Elizabeth's death.

''I came back late that evening and decided to go...back then you could rent movies at Blockbuster, we don't do that anymore but back then... and I came back and man, I had to stay straight the whole day and I was ready to party and Liz had a party a little bit with me. She seemed that she was fine and we watched the movie. She dozed off a couple of times but it was by then... it was like, you know...2am or 3am, I thought she was just tired. I made a snack, heated up a snack in the microwave and she was hungry and actually stood up to come to the microwave with me and wanted to help. I said, you go ahead and sit down, I'll bring it to you and I brought her, her food. She took a couple of bites out of it. I sat down on the couch a few feet away from her to eat my food and she was passed out. I thought that was weird because why was she eating her food and...uh...one thing led to another. I realised that she was unconscious and I ended up calling 911 and I thought that they got there so fast. I thought she was fine but I learned a couple of hours later that she hadn't made it to the hospital, it was a complete shock to me.'' - Lex Luger.

On being asked how he was doing hearing the news about Elizabeth's death, Randy Savage said:

''I feel really bad for her and her family and the situation in which we hadn't seen each other for maybe 5, 6 years....but you know we had closure and we said hello and everything was all good. But I feel really bad for her family.'' - 'Macho Man' Randy Savage.

To this day a lot of fans (including myself) believe that Elizabeth should be posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame for everything she has contributed to the world of wrestling. As I mentioned previously, she was a huge part of many iconic storylines and had played various roles. For what she had achieved at that time as a woman in what was mostly a male dominated industry, it's about time that she was fully recognised as a trail blazer. Her death at the age of 42 was a shocking tragedy and one wonders what could have been especially now and in previous years, Elizabeth might not have chosen to be in front of the cameras anymore but she could have continued to play a pivotal role behind the scenes at WWE after all she knew the industry more than most. It would have been lovely to see her continue to grow in the world of wrestling. It's sad that it wasn't to be.

My thoughts on Lex Luger (Lawrence)? well, it seemed that Elizabeth was surrounded by a lot of dominant men in her life. It seemed that the soft-spoken gentleness of her 'Miss Elizabeth' character was not that far away from the real person that she was. It's difficult to know the real story of what really went on behind closed doors but it was clear that she was in an abusive relationship with Lex Luger and he did have control of her. For her to leave wrestling and go and work as a receptionist in his gym, for her to refuse to take part in the European tour but still accompany him in 2002, there's just a lot of things that scream to me that he was in control of her and she somehow felt that she had to do as he wished. The circumstances of her death, him coming home and desperate to take drugs and involving her in that and sitting away from her whilst they were eating, just a lot of things that just don't sit right with me but none of us will never know the full story. I'm not pointing fingers but it does make me want to ask questions. I think about her relationship with Randy Savage and people would comment about how controlling he was of her and this was when the cameras were turned off. He was in control of a lot of things from what she wore to how she had her hair and how she would walk in and out of the ring. It was played off as him being overprotective and respectful of her but on the other hand he was paranoid that her skirt would inch up a bit too high or someone would be able to see a bit of cleavage or something, he would make her rehearse going in and out of the ring and Elizabeth would go along with everything that he said and demanded.

There's so much sadness with the story of what happened with Elizabeth and when it was announced that Lex Luger was going to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame a few eyebrows were raised. What are your thoughts on this and what happened with Miss Elizabeth? as always, if you would like to leave your comments below, please do so or send me an email in confidence to jocaledoniankitty@gmail.com.

As sad as this post has been I hope that if you are unfamiliar with Elizabeth's story that you come away from this with a bit more knowledge about who she was and how important she was and is, in the wrestling story. I hope you will check out some of her iconic moments and here's hoping that one day she will be included in the WWE Hall of Fame amongst the greats.

*Please be aware that I will be discussing some sensitive details in this post which will be distressing. I will be talking about domestic violence, suicide, substance misuse and murder. I will aim, as I always do, to try and share the details of the cases in as sensitive a way as I can without taking away from the facts of each case. If you have any questions or enquiries, please contact me via email: jocaledoniankitty@gmail.com*

If you have had the opportunity to read the first part of this series, thank you for taking the time to do so and for coming back again to read part two. I really appreciated the feedback about my previous post which was shared across my social media platforms. It turned out that quite a lot of people didn't know about some of the details I had shared, especially in regards to the tragic stories of Lloyd Avery and Ramon Novarro.

In this post, I will be concluding this two part series with another 6 actors and actresses who were murdered and the shocking circumstances in which they died. So without further ado, let's get into these 6 tragic stories....

Susan Cabot

(Susan Calbot. Picture credit: Pinterest)

Back in the day, everyone thought that Susan Cabot had the world at her feet and she actually did at one point. Blessed with stunning looks and a natural ability to not only sing, dance and act, she was also a gifted artist who illustrated children's books. It seemed that whatever she had the thought of doing, she was always able to make it a success. When she later retired from acting she found a new talent for fixing up vintage cars and reselling them. As well as being good at making money, she was careful on what she spent it on and invested in real estate and in the years before her death, her talents with investing would prove to be a great help to her especially when her mental illness was taking it's toll.

Susan had been through a lot in life, pretty much from the day she was born. She came into the world on the 9th of July 1927 and her home life wasn't the best and that's putting it politely. Her father walked out when she was a young child and this devastated her mother (who was already quite a fragile person as it was) to the point that she had a nervous breakdown and had to be hospitalised. Instead of her mother having some time to rest so that she could get on with her life, it appeared that her mother had no signs of getting better and had to remain in psychiatric care. With nobody to look after her, Susan ended up being shifted from foster home to foster home, never knowing what was happening, always confused and frightened. She had endured so much in her early years and was a victim of sexual and emotional abuse, she was desperate to get out of foster care.

She ended up rushing into a marriage at a young age as a way to escape. Things did start to look bright when she decided to really pursue her acting passion and her dream came true, she had made it! She appeared in iconic western movies such as Tomahawk and Gunsmoke. She found herself being typecast as a western movie actress and at first she didn't mind it but it began to annoy her as time went on. She wanted to try different roles, really stretch out her abilities as an actress, she had a great love for the theatre and decided to go back on stage where she could play a variety of different roles.

She ended up getting divorced from her first husband but she didn't stay single for long. In an interesting and shocking twist to Susan's story, it turned out that the CIA wanted her to sleep with King Hussein of Jordan whilst he was in America. She later said that she had no intention of sleeping with him but she attended the party that he happened to be holding anyway. She said when she met him she fell for his charm and so it began, a seven year affair which resulted in her only son being born, Timothy Scott Roman.

Apparently the CIA were well aware of the seven year relationship/affair and the fact that they had gone on to have a child together. The pair never married but the King gave her regular maintenance money for Timothy. Soon the relationship fizzled out and she met her second husband but this relationship didn't last long either sadly. She decided that she wanted to retire from Hollywood for good after years of going back and forth. Her final movie was called 'The Wasp Woman' which was a horror film.

As the years rolled on, Susan's mental health difficulties were beginning to show, because of her traumatic childhood she had post traumatic stress disorder which she had been trying to manage for decades. Her home was a mess with mouldy food and clutter everywhere. She was able to get by financially thanks to her hobby of restoring and reselling vintage cars. She had also been smart with her money in the past by getting involved in real estate. So on one hand she was able to carry on providing for herself but on the other hand, she was completely falling apart psychologically and becoming more and more paranoid. Her son Timothy was now 22 and living with his mother. He had been going through some things himself physically and mentally. Things could get quite tense between Timothy and Susan at times and even though the wider public don't know what exactly went on behind closed doors, those who were close to Timothy appear to have a lot of sympathy for him which came across as a surprise when I was doing my research into this story due to what was to eventually happen.

Susan's journey in life had been a very difficult one but there were some amazing moments, she achieved so much with her acting career and her talent but her life was to be sadly cut short at the age of just 59. Apparently on the 10th of December 1986, Susan woke up in her bedroom and began screaming and shouting. When Timothy tried to calm her down it was no good, she kept screaming and asking for her mother. As Timothy got on to the phone to call for help, Susan suddenly charged at him with a weightlifting bar and a scalpel. In the middle of this mayhem, Timothy was able to grab the bar from Susan and for whatever reason decided to bludgeon Susan over the head with it repeatedly. His lawyers later argued that his actions were a result of the medications he was on for his dwarfism, CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease) and he had problems with his pituitary gland.

After murdering his mother, whether it was intentional or a moment of losing control after years of abuse, whatever the real story is, we may never know but he chose to lie to the police and tried to hide the murder weapon. He made up a story that someone wearing a mask had killed his mother. It didn't take long for the truth to be revealed and Timothy was arrested and charged with his mother's murder. He was held in custody until trial where he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Due to the fact that there was no evidence of premeditation they couldn't prove that the murder was deliberate and planned. They also had evidence of both Timothy and his mother's mental state, Susan had actually been under the care of a psychologist at the time of her death but her psychologist was struggling to deal with her. Apparently the psychologist later revealed that the sessions with Susan were incredibly draining because she had gone through so much trauma in her life and because of her behaviour during those sessions. All of these things were taken into consideration when deciding a verdict.

Timothy was let go after spending nearly three years in prison and was ordered to attend regular counselling and put on three years probation. After being released, Timothy turned his hand to art and like his mother he was naturally creative and talented. He was a very popular person and had many friends, a  lot of people had good things to say about him. As well as inheriting his mother's creative genes he sadly inherited her family's history of psychiatric disorders too. He struggled a lot with physical and psychological issues and sadly passed away at the age of 38 from complications related to CJD. On his online tribute pages there are numerous messages of support for Timothy and people saying how much they missed him. There were comments about how nice and kind he was as a person. Someone also said that they wished the world had known the real him and that he had been through so much.

We may never know the full story of the relationship between Susan and her son but both were dealt a very hard card in life and it's so sad, both were very talented people and very popular. This story wasn't so black and white, there were obviously a lot of factors to take into consideration especially with the fact that Timothy had a brain disorder as well as emotional problems. I also wonder as well as having the post traumatic stress disorder if Susan had some form of dementia?, having reacted the way she did and Timothy mentioned that during shouting for her mother, Susan failed to recognise her own son. I'm just speculating about the dementia but I guess we will never know. It's such a heartbreaking story but both Susan and Timothy will continue to be remembered with fondness as online tributes from around the world have demonstrated.

Stephanie Moseley

(Stephanie Moseley. Picture credit: Metro)

If you are a huge fan of R&B, Stephanie's beautiful face will not be unfamiliar to you, a woman of many talents she seemed to be popping up everywhere at one point and had worked with everyone from Mariah Carey to Usher to Beyonce. She wasn't just a pretty face and was known for being an incredible dancer who went on to be a highly successful Choreographer who everyone wanted to work with and of course her glittering acting and modelling career seemed to be going from strength to strength.

If you have happened to watch any videos of Stephanie's dancing, you will notice that even in her rehearsals for shows, she had such an incredible and natural flow to her moves (I studied dancing professionally myself for many years and know what goes into it and could recognise the incredible ability she had as well as the powerful drive, passion, discipline and focus she had in spades) and no matter if she was in a group dancing, your eyes automatically fixed on her, not to sound creepy but her dancing was utterly captivating. It was no surprise that she was so sought after and she was in that fortunate position that a lot of doors were opened to her due to her incredible talent.

She wasn't short on male admirers either and as fun as this may have been at times, it was also a hindrance as boyfriends would often be controlling or jealous due to how successful she was. She married an up and coming rapper by the name of Earl Hayes (I'm not really sure whether to call him 'an up and coming rapper' due to the fact that yes he had a lot of celebrity friends, attended showbiz parties with Stephanie etc but his career wasn't taking off as it should have done if you know what I mean, he just didn't have that special something) and as is the usual story, things in the beginning were great but trouble was soon bubbling under the surface.

When you have two people in a relationship who are involved in the same industry, especially if one is hugely successful but the other is still struggling for their big break, teething problems are bound to happen if you don't have a secure, trusting relationship. With Stephanie continuing to work with big names, being a successful actress who'd starred in the Twilight Saga and had just been told that her series 'Hit The Floor' was doing so well that VH1 gave the go-ahead for a third season, tensions began to build especially as nothing seemed to be happening with Earl's career.

The company that Earl kept was quite questionable also (not meaning to sound judgemental), he was close friends with controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather who was (not to sound too Mary Whitehouse about it) no stranger to lifting his hand towards women shall we say. In fact Floyd had a well known long history of domestic violence. So Floyd at one point tried to help Earl out with his music career by signing him to his own label but for whatever reason nothing ever came of that so Earl was just kind of floating in the wind next to his successful wife and more drama was to come.

Stephanie and Earl had an up and down marriage with insecurities and infidelity and one of the huge issues that really rocked the marriage was Stephanie's past affair with the successful R&B singer, Trey Songz. Infidelity with anyone outside of your marriage is one thing but to have an affair with a guy who calls himself 'Mr Steal Your Girl' as well as declaring that 'I invented sex' and was known for being an over-the-top ladies man who slept with loads of female fans and bragged about his sexual skills, it was just a nightmare. I watched a performance that Trey Songz did and I agree that he is a very handsome chap and talented but there was women going crazy in the audience for him. There's a regular slot in his show where he selects a woman from the audience to come up on stage and they get to touch his sweaty body and he puts his necklace on them, the other women in the audience scream and boo with jealousy if he kisses the selected woman on stage. I don't know who loves Trey Songz more, himself or the women in the audience.

(Earl Hayes. Picture credit: Genius)

Anyway, I ventured off there but you get the picture, Earl maybe felt that he didn't match up to Mr 'Steal Your Girl' and was obviously feeling self-conscious and just couldn't shake that off. Now at that point in their marriage they should've called it a day because this obviously ate away at him for a long time so when rumours came back around that there was the possibility that Stephanie had rekindled her affair with Trey Songs, Earl saw nothing but red.

On the 8th of December 2014, Earl was on a FaceTime call with his close friend Floyd Mayweather and they were discussing Trey Songz and Stephanie. Earl was in a heated mood and whatever these rumours were about Trey and Stephanie, they really set him off. Without finding out the real circumstances or having any proof to anything, Earl stewed more and more on the details and started to declare that he was going to kill his wife. Floyd begged him not to do anything crazy and to take a breath and relax but there was no talking to Earl, he'd made his mind up, he was blind with rage and nothing was going to stop him.

The exact details of what happened next is unclear but what we do know is that Earl left the FaceTime app on and Floyd was still there online and shouting for Earl to come back and to stop. To this day Floyd will not go into details but has said that he was a witness to what happened, the majority of it overheard on the FaceTime app.

Neighbours heard gun shots and screaming coming from the couple's apartment and when the police arrived they got into the home where Earl had locked himself in the bedroom. The police tried to gain access and ordered him to come out and the next thing anyone heard was two final gunshots. Earl had taken his own life after murdering Stephanie.

When the news broke, everyone was in shock and a lot of people in the music industry who had worked with Stephanie were heartbroken. Earl even had tributes made to him about what a great guy he apparently was. Someone made a stupid comment that Earl was not a violent man, well I don't know what they consider violence because it is clear that this man had anger issues and he murdered his wife, he pulled the trigger and ended her life over some rumours which might not have been true. It was clear that he could fly into a rage and even the likes of Floyd Mayweather couldn't talk sense into him or calm him down.

Stephanie was just 30 years old when she was killed and never had the chance to have children or go on to continue her success. Earl was 34.

Stephanie, who was originally from Canada was taken back home to be laid to rest at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Surrey.

Earl was buried in Inglewood cemetery in LA. His inscription (which I find to be in somewhat poor taste, but that's just my opinion) on his memorial stone says ''This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased''.  Of all the things to have placed on the grave of a murderer, that was decided to be the appropriate quote in his family's eyes. I find it to be disrespectful to Stephanie in my honest opinion. I understand that some parental bonds with their children can never be broken and that some levels of love are unconditional but you do come across a lot of denial when someone who certain people believed to have been this angelic person suddenly commits an act of violence. They'll make excuses and say that the person was never angry and that their lives were great. Nobody knows what went on behind the doors of their apartment leading up to that horrific moment when he chose to murder his wife. All I can say is that this man had a history of an uncontrolled temper and how quick it was all done, the discussion with Floyd beforehand about what he was going to do. It sounds in my opinion based on my research that this was a situation that had been building for a long time and instead of ending the marriage, Earl didn't want to let go because of the status and in his own warped way he loved her but couldn't control her. It was his own insecurities and jealously that caused his paranoia and actions. There was a severe lack of trust in that marriage and the fact that rumours could have caused the ending of two lives is unbelievable but it sadly happened and whatever the real story about the rumours, Stephanie did not deserve to lose her life.

Berry Berenson

(Berry Berenson. Picture credit: Wikipedia)

I had to include the incredible Berry Berenson because I feel that a lot of people don't know who she is and the horrific circumstances of her death. I'm sure her lovely face will pop into your mind when I say the words...'Anthony Perkins's wife'. Yes, Berry was married to Anthony for decades and the couple had two very talented sons together, OZ went on to become a highly respected actor and director and Elvis went on to become a musician and songwriter.

Berry was a multi-talented woman and it's no surprise that the amazing combination of talent that both Berry and Anthony had would continue through their children. As well as being a successful model when she was younger, Berry enjoyed a great career as an actress and photographer.

Berry had been married to Anthony from 1973 right through to his tragic death from AIDS in 1992. It's well known now that Anthony was gay but he tried to keep his personal life private and his marriage to Berry was a very loving one. It can be difficult for some people to imagine a marriage that has a few factors missing but when I think of Berry and Anthony, I think of the incredible bond and eternal friendship that rock legend Freddie Mercury had with his beloved Mary Austin. It was clear for all to see how deeply Anthony and Berry loved each other. There's also so many beautiful pictures online of their little family and it's so heartwarming.

So, sadly Berry had become a widow in 1992 and had to bring up their two sons the best way that she could and what a wonderful job that she did.

On the 11th of September 2001, I don't need to tell you the exact events of that day because that date alone is just enough to being back all of those heartbreaking memories but on that morning, sadly Berry was on one of the planes that had been hijacked. She was returning home from a vacation and had been on Flight 11 which was flown into the North Tower.

Utterly heartbreaking to have lost Berry on that day as well as so many thousands of other beautiful people. That horrible day is never forgotten and at the official September 11th memorial Berry's name is included on the panel N-76 at the North Pool.

Merlin Santana

The tragic story of what happened to talented 90's actor, Merlin Santana is one that could make your blood boil. If you're a child of the 90's you will know that Merlin was pretty much a staple of iconic 90's comedies, he was everywhere and everyone liked him. He had roles in The Cosby Show, Under One Roof , The Steve Harvey Show, Moesha...the list goes on, he certainly worked hard back then and became a popular household name.

With a promising career already blossoming, it was exciting to see what was going to happen next for this talented young man but his promising life was cut short and when I will tell you the details of what happened to him you will be just as sickened as I was when I first discovered this.

Merlin was great friends with the iconic child actor Brandon Adams, the name might not ring a bell to you but when I say ''the kid who played young Michael Jackson in the Bad video'' I'm sure you will instantly know who I'm talking about. Brandon didn't just appear in the Bad video, he was also in Moonwalker as well as many other things. Both Merlin and Brandon were 90's icons and had a great friendship which should have been able to have continued to be enjoyed but sadly tragedy was just around the corner, meaningless tragedy.

On the 9th of November 2002, Merlin and Brandon had been visiting a friend in the Crenshaw District in Los Angeles, (an area that has been known for it's violence) and were sitting in a car when out of nowhere someone fired a bullet through the headrest of where Merlin was sitting, killing him instantly. It turned out that (with the help of two accomplices) a 19 year old by the name of Damien Andre Gates was the one who pulled the trigger on the orders of his manipulative lying girlfriend.

Apparently this girl Monique King, who was 15 at the time, had told Damien and his friend that Merlin had tried to sexually assault her which was completely false, Merlin and Monique had never met before. Damien was furious and planned to shoot Merlin with the help of Monique and his friend. After they carried out the senseless murder they fled the scene. Eventually they were caught and Damien was convicted of first-degree murder and the attempted murder of Brandon Adams. He was given three life sentences plus 70 years in prison, his accomplice Brandon Bynes was given 23 years. He was 23 at the time and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The girlfriend who set the whole thing up based on lies, was tried as an adult and found guilty of second-degree murder. She was ordered to spend 10 years in a juvenile facility. The court took into consideration that Monique King who was just 15 at the time had what was described as 'a miserable childhood' and her lawyers hoped that her time spent locked up would help her psychologically. It's unclear what she hoped to achieve by the despicable thing that she did and why target Merlin? Whatever her reasons, there is no justifiable reason. It's is a heartbreaking loss of such a talented young man who was only 26 at the time of his death.

Merlin is buried in Saint Raymond's Cemetery in The Bronx, New York.

Johnny Wactor

You many not be aware of who Johnny Wactor was if you're not a fan of General Hospital but Johnny was a talented actor who was beginning to make waves but had fallen on some hard times as is often the case in Hollywood. His career troubles began when certain members of the industry were having a strike. Johnny had just finished his contract with the bosses of General Hospital and they had no upcoming plans for his character so they let him go and with the strike, Johnny struggled to find acting roles.

Never too shy of a day's work, Johnny decided that he would keep going to auditions and in the meantime, to make ends meet he would take a job as a bartender in a nightclub in downtown LA.

Johnny's story as an actor in LA is not a rare one, Billy Connolly once said that in the majority of bars, cafes and restaurants in LA you will find actors and actresses in between roles just trying to pay their bills in dreams of the big time one day. Johnny was a passionate actor but was not big headed he had a habit of looking out for others and was a great friend to many. He did struggle with some drinking problems when times got hard during his career but at the time leading up to his death he was feeling more positive about the future and planned a career in the industry behind the scenes as a producer or writer. Sadly his dreams and plans were not to be realised because of a heartless event.

It was May the 25th 2024 when Johnny had just finished his usual shift at the nightclub and being his usual self (being concerned for others) he walked his female co-worker to her car, Johnny did this with the majority of his friends to ensure their safety. On the way to her car he noticed that three men were messing about with his car and trying to steal a catalytic converter, there was a confrontation and one of the men pulled out a gun, Johnny shielded his friend as they fired the bullet and it caught him. His friend was in shock and asked him if he was ok to which he replied ''Nope, been shot'' and he fell back on to her. The three degenerates fled the scene and an ambulance was called but it was too late, Johnny had died whilst protecting his friend.

The police were able to find the perpetrators and it turned out that they were part of a gang. On the 15th of August four men were arrested, two were charged with murder and the two were charged with lesser charges but it was some sort of comfort to the family and friends of Johnny as least to have had these monsters caught for what they did. This horrific incident only happened in 2024 so there will be more details available in due course and I will update if I find out anything.

After Johnny's heartbreaking death, many paid tribute to him and shared their sadness for what could have been. It was also revealed that Johnny had been struggling financially a lot before he died and had not had an acting job in three years.

Such a tragic loss of a wonderful person over nothing.

Johnny was cremated and his remains were given to his family. His family also set up a foundation in his name 'Johnny's Mile Foundation'.

Eddie Hassell

Another talented actor who's life was taken too soon for the most nonsensical of reasons was Eddie Hassell. Just 30 years old when he was murdered, he had been a popular child star who was making a break into more adult roles. He was well known for his role as 'Clay' in 'The Kids Are All Right'.

As well as being a talented actor, Eddie was a passionate adventurer who was all about skateboarding, doing his own stunts, hiking, climbing you name it, he enjoyed taking risks and living his life to the full. He would have been great in action movies had he been given the chance but sadly his life was taken at the young age of 30.

The exact details of Eddie's murder are patchy but all we know is that his death occurred due to a carjacking in which 18 year old D'Jon Antone had shot Eddie in the stomach. Eddie sadly died of his injuries and D'Jon was quickly caught and charged with murder, there are no updates as of yet but like with Johnny's case, I will update with any news that becomes available. I suppose we have to take some comfort in knowing these evil people have been caught before someone else comes to any harm.

Eddie was cremated and his ashes were given to his family. He is remembered fondly by so many people and it's yet another senseless tragedy that should never have happened.
